  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, Not the only fish in the banking sea, but this geographically-desirable regional bank is breaking out to the upside. All the best!
  • bRobert: @Forexpro $PNFP Lovely WEEKLY. 6 months. of tight consolidation Pinch breakout $150 target. 50%. upside Nice
  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, I was this close to dumping this Nashville-based regional bank due to its lengthy sideways mosey, but like many bank stocks it broke out on Friday on the back of the employment report. We'll see how it goes from here; I remain very modestly long. My primary financial services holding is $MS, a rather different beast, but when I was looking at regional bank stocks this one appeared to have better prospects than most. Best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, This bank stock was intended to be a "buy, build and hold" position for me, but despite a generally well-received earnings report it remains mired roughly midway within a 10 point rectangle, and I'm getting antsy. "Long term", given my age and demographic realities has to mean at most "a few years", not "several decades". I like the economic outlook for the outfit's local market (Nashville and environs), but the price action doesn't seem to be reflecting my optimism. I'm considering dumping this for something that seems more inclined to move higher, while keeping an eye on it should it break to the upside. At least it had a good day today, while the bulge bracket bank crew fared less well. Still long as of Friday afternoon. Have a great weekend!
  • gtr89: @Forexpro $PNFP your $MS is doing great. I bought $MS a while back based on your posts and research of my own and it’s been profitable. Thanks for your posts.
  • Forexpro: @gtr89 $PNFP $MS Thanks, Gtr89, Lady DeBeers has also been in that ticker for a good while, if I'm not mistaken. Not a great day today, but it is a good chart, reflecting (I think) a company featuring a strong management team that has made many good decisions. If Mr. Gorman and his cronies want to hike the dividend, I personally will not take that amiss. :-) Here's hoping that it continues to work well for us; all the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, This regional bank headquartered in Nashville - I'm long a modest amount - reported way, way after the bell yesterday. There was no immediate response in the price action, but this morning there is a bid - for 100 shares, at that - at 88.88, which is 1.8 percent above yesterday's 87.29 close. I'm already tasting the extra-large cappuccino I can now afford to indulge myself with. If the price holds, that is. Cheers!
  • Forexpro: ...
Anyway, just mulling over the day while waiting for $PNFP to get around to releasing their results (I'm long a starter plus a bit). Today is July 20, isn't it? Ugh, I just checked the press releases, and last quarter they didn't get around to report ...
  • Forexpro: ...
No position; on the banking front, I'm in $MS (fairly heftily), $SIVB lightly, and $PNFP.

    Best of luck today!
  • Forexpro: ...
P.S. Should have mentioned that we get the minutes from the FOMC's Jun meeting at 2 EDT. I should also have noted that I'm long a fair amount of $MS, a bit of $PNFP, and somewhat less $SIVB.
  • Wolf: @Forexpro $SPY $KBE $MS $PNFP $SIVB $KBE is off, but the preferred Bank ETF $PGX $PFF $PGF are near 10 year highs. With low rates, guess people are looking for dividends.
  • Forexpro: @Wolf $SPY $KBE $MS $PNFP $SIVB $PGX $PFF $PGF Thanks, Wolf, They are, indeed, and I've dabbled in bank preferred issues myself. It's getting tougher, as the ones with decent coupons are all being called. Here's hoping that you're doing well; all the best!
  • Pokersmith: @Wolf $SPY $KBE $MS $PNFP $SIVB $PGX $PFF $PGF I own a few of those preferred bank ETF's...good yields AND technically sound
  • Forexpro: Re: $KBE Hi, Friends, Another rough start for the banks. I remain long a sizable amount of $MS, which should not be tarred with the same brush as, say, $BAC, but I could be talking my book. I also own a smidge of $SIVB, and a bit more than a smidge of $PNFP. Doesn't matter; they're all getting their ears pinned back. All the best!
  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, Most bank charts that I've looked at today display a very similar pattern. I happen to still own this ticker, which is intended to be a longer-term bet on the continued appeal of Nashville for businesses and consumers. Given that my cost basis is 86.16 it obviously isn't doing much to help fund my lifestyle as yet, but the position is net green today, and that wasn't the case on Friday. All the best!
  • debeers: @Forexpro $PNFP -How does this compare to $SIVB in your opinion? Thanks, Mr. @Forexpro.
  • Forexpro: @debeers $PNFP $SIVB

    Hey, LadyDebeers,

They're subject to a lot of the same macro inputs, but as you know, they've very different beasts. $SIVB is a superregional with plenty of fingers in the private equity/venture capital world, and $PNFP is a s ...

  • bigbartabs: @Forexpro $MS $SIVB $PNFP $JPM $C $MSFT ... hey buddy... I've learned over many years of stock market that lower weeks, especially closes... and especially-er the indexes... matter. It looks like PNFP is showing how we all need to watch that very simply indicator. I'm as small as I've been for quite awhile... now looking for key levels to hold and start going north again. Be careful buddy... I know you will and do. From the hot (let me say that a bit differently... VERY hot) Sierra Nevada foothills... all the best my good friend...
  • Forexpro: @bigbartabs $MS $SIVB $PNFP $JPM $C $MSFT Hey, Bigbartabs, Here's hoping that all is well with you despite living in an oven. Banks are getting crushed; if I didn't know better, I'd say that a lot of calls that looked like expiring comfortably in the money on Wednesday morning are now looking like finishing worthless, and that likely matters to the unhappy owners. I think that it's getting overdone, but that isn't to say that it can't/won't get overdone-er. Let's follow the Mentor's Mantra, and hang on to our dough. I, too, have lightened up. Take care, and may your a/c just work!
  • Forexpro: ...
We'll see how banks do today. The yield curve is showing some signs of renewed steepening, usually a positive thing for entities that borrow short and lend long. On the minus side, two biggees ($JPM, $C) have recently observed that their capital mar ...
  • Forexpro: @Forexpro $JPM $C $SIVB $PNFP $MS Hi, Friends, Attached is a chart of the 10-year note yield minus that for the 3-month T-note, which I use as a proxy for banks' lending opportunity versus their funding costs. Imprecise, but closer to current reality than the old "2s-10s" for most of the names that I follow. All the best!
  • debeers: @Forexpro $JPM $C $SIVB $PNFP $MS . i'll be adding to $SIVB in the no-touch portfolio. Thanks so much for everything you do .Very appreciated.
  • Forexpro: @debeers $JPM $C $SIVB $PNFP $MS Hey, Lady, DeBeers, Who, me? I'm just trying to age more or less gracefully. I wish that I had more $SIVB on; I shied away, as the strategic vision seemed to be revolving around "more biz in China" which didn't strike me as all that promising. However, as you've pointed out on multiple occasions, the firm's people still appear to be executing well in the good ol' US of A, and there is plenty of wood to chop here. Chartwise, it appears to be finding support in the 542ish area, now a level to keep an eye on, it seems to me. Here's hoping that you're well, and thriving, with nothing but green on your screens; all the best!
  • Forexpro: ...
Judging from the accompanying chart, a lot of fixed income investors - they almost all work for institutions, not many retail types trade Treasuries - went into yesterday's Fed decision/presser positioned for additional curve steepening. That's been ...
  • Forexpro: @Pokersmith $KBE $MS $BAC $MTB $HBAN $KEY $CFG $RF You're Welcome, Pokersmith, FWIW - not all that much - Barron's has an article on superregionals in the current issue, focusing on the issue of loan growth. The author's (Carleton English, she's a regular staff writer) argument is that given the current poor state of that metric for most banks, those that can show superior growth will tend to post stock prices that outperform the broader sector. Those highlighted as potential winners are $ABTX, which I've never owned, $PNC, a larger entity that I've been in from time to time (currently out) without notable success, $PNFP, which I currently own, and $SIVB. The latter has been, deservedly, a Lady DeBeers fave for years if not decades. I currently only have a holding position, but I'm always interested in adding on pullbacks. Those don't generally persist for very long. All the best!
  • Docoof: $SCHW $GS $JPM $PNC $MS $PNFP Banks are up
  • Forexpro: Re: $PNFP Hi, Friends, This regional bank ticker does business principally in and around Nashville, with some outposts in such exotic locales as Chattanooga. I mention it because I'm trying to buy some just a little lower, and thus far failing. Nashville is a growth story despite the oft-atrocious weather. I note that a friendly acquaintance from my grad school days - granted, those days are receding in the rear view mirror - has just been hired to run a department at Alliance Bernstein, and will be heading to work not at 6th Av at 54th Street, but to the firm's new headquarters in, yup, Nashville. Another Jersey transplant soon to be looking for a Music City mortgage. He won't be alone. Hope your day is going well; all the best!
  • Carpe_Diem: @Forexpro $PNFP $CFR - I really like the small regional bank sector and they all seem to be squeezing. I have been Long $CFR out of Texas and they sure have been cleaning up of late. This $PNFP story looks similar. Thanks for sharing.
  • Forexpro: @Carpe_Diem $PNFP $CFR Thanks, @Carpe_Diem, I agree that $CFR is an excellent name ... Hope you're keeping well, and thriving; cheers!
  • mopick: @Carpe_Diem $PNFP $CFR, agreed, have been in $ISBC for many months. New high today, still sporting almost 4% yield. Fabulous growth, not expensive. Check that, close to a new high.
  • debeers: $AMAT-decides NO on the Kokusai electric deal. $HIG-Allianz, or Travelers exploring a deal. Wait on this a bit, THEN . EOD adding back. $PNFP- no matter which one i think it is far more likely the hedgies will go after the majors and not the regionals. CS and Nomura should tank in my opinion as well as the majors who invested in them.
